    Physical education classes had a holiday twist in December at East Lake Elementary School. Teachers Lauren Cinelli and Steve Donovan set up eight stations for students to enjoy, each with a seasonal theme.

    It was Grinch Day for first graders at East Lake Elementary. The children came to school dressed in green, wearing a Santa hat or dressed as a character from the Dr. Seuss classic, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Grinch activities went on throughout the day.

    The East Lake First Grade students along with their adult companions created magical Gingerbread Houses as part of the holiday season. The students started with empty cartons, covered them in edible goodies to create their own versions of the perfect Gingerbread house.

    As students in Mrs. Finnerty's class wrapped up a unit on Matter. They had so much fun making root beer floats. The students were able to identify each state of matter, categorize each material as a solid, liquid, or gas, and describe some changing states of matter as well.

    Behind every computer program is an intricate set of letters, numbers and symbols known as code, which tells the program how to work. Students throughout the Massapequa School District got a taste of coding, from basic to complex, during Computer Science Education Week from Dec. 6-12.
