About the program
-
The Massapequa High School Child Study Preschool Program is taught by Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, Ms. Anna Fierro - Gregg. High school students that have successfully completed "Parenting and Child Development" will act as "teachers" in a preschool environment. The program is for children who are at least 3 years of age and potty-trained before the first day of classes.
There are two sessions available - both are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2024 - 2025 probable time frames:
- AM session: probably 9:15 - 11:50 AS OF 6/20/24: FULL WITH A LONG WAITLIST
- PM session: probably 12:15 - 2:15 FULL WITH A SHORT WAITLIST
Children must be available on both Tuesdays and Thursdays and be available for the entire time frame. If you have a tight schedule, and may need to be a little late, or leave a little early once a week, we can probably accommodate that. Children are paired with a high school student each class period. And each high school student is with your child for an average of 35 minutes. If your child cannot be present for at least 90% of the time, it hurts the high school student(s).
The 2024-2025 school year start date will be in November (date subject to change) and end by Memorial Day. There is a short small group parent orientation session, typically in the November time frame. Updates are emailed to participating families.
Preschool Requirements
-
The program is for children from 3 to 5 years old:
- Children must turn 3, be potty trained, and be fully vaccinated by the first day of classes.
- Children must be able to attend a minimum of 90% of the scheduled class time frame.
- Attendance is important, we expect your child to attend at least 75% of the scheduled classes following the district school calendar.
- Families must provide their own transportation to and from - the district does not provide transportation.
- Massapequa and Massapequa Park residents get priority.
- Families not residing in either of these towns will only be accepted if there are open spots after Massapequa residents are placed.
ONLINE APPLICATION
-
2024-2025 school year application is temporarily closed. Both sessions are full with wait-lists. If you missed this year's deadline you may email me in September. I will not take names over the summer.
The deadline is June 19th, 2024. After June 20th, if there are any openings left, it will be first come, first served.
- You will receive confirmation that your application was received.
- For currently enrolled families, acceptance is based on the date and time of form submission.
- For past year's families, and new families, acceptance is based on the child meeting the criteria above, and a lottery that takes place in June.
- *On or after 6/20, the remaining qualifying applicants will be put on a waiting list. The application will remain open until all spots are full.
- Confirmation of enrollment for this upcoming Fall 2024 will be emailed out before the end of June. All future applications will be put on a waitlist, as spots open you will be contacted.
